Millbrook B&B

The gabled MillBrook was constructed by Wilbert Sykes in the 1800's to shelter his large family.  Here he and Harriet brought up their eight sons and two daughters. From this location Sykes built and operated a very successful circular saw mill, making use of the bountiful forests that still grace the region and provide its lavish fall colors.

The MillBrook B&B is a charming Victorian farmhouse that nestles beside the rural village of Brownsville at the foot of Mount Ascutney with its stunning vistas.  Stroll down the country lane along the brook to a covered bridge and an old mill raceway.  Picturesque Woodstock and historic Windsor, the Birthplace of Vermont, are nearby and Dartmouth College is an easy drive up the scenic Connecticut River Valley. For the winter sports-minded, there is alpine and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, even snow shoeing. In warmer weather, enjoy golf, country clubs, a year round fitness center, bike rentals with trails and routes for both road and mountain bikes, English and Western horse riding stables (the Green Mountain Horse Assoc. is right down the road), hiking, fishing, picnicking, canoeing (rentals along the Connecticut River) and even hang gliding!

For the explorer, the area has much to offer. There are covered bridges, museums (Saint-Gaudens, Constitution House, American Precision, Billings Farm), Historic Societies, grist mills, cheese factories, breweries, antique shops, dairies, even farms to pick your own fresh fruits vegetables and flowers.

Accommodations

The MillBrook B&B has five unique New England style guest chambers and suites. Each has a private bath and an array of charming antiques. A rich assortment of German Fraktur paintings grace the woodwork and the cozy atmosphere makes one feel immediately at home.  In each chamber, guests are pampered by fresh flowers, Vermont-made chocolate and natural soaps.  The MillBrook features hypoallergenic pillows and triple-sheeted bed linens.

Four comfortable sitting areas provide gathering space for conversation or private reading.  The warm common area with its glass front wood burning stove is especially popular after a hard day of skiing or hiking. Afternoon tea is served here - and during ski season a special après ski hot soup simmers on the stove for your pleasure, an additional hospitality from Kay Carriere, your resident Innkeeper.
